VoIP FAQs

Use our VoIP FAQs to answer everything you’ve ever wanted to know about VoIP.

What is VoIP, and how does it work?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows sending voice over the internet. With a broadband internet connection and a subscription to a VoIP provider, you can make calls over the internet.

In this technology, a device converts your voice from analog to digital signal. The signal is then sent over the internet, which will be converted back to an analog signal for the remaining distance over the traditional circuit switch (PSTN).

How can VoIP benefit me?

VoIP has a host of advantages, especially compared to the traditional phone service, such as portability, price, and additional features. For example, VoIP providers often allow unlimited calls at a monthly fee.

How’s VoIP call quality?

The call quality of the VoIP system usually depends on the internet’s speed and reliability. The faster and more reliable the internet speed, the better quality of the call.

What kind of internet connection does VoIP need?

It’s always advised to get a reliable internet connection for cloud systems. However, you’ll generally need at least 100 kbps on upload and download, not considering other variables such as the Codec in use.

What’s the difference between hosted and on-premise VoIP phone systems?

The hosted, or cloud VoIP system involves a third-party hosting your phone system through a PBX in the cloud. Users in your organization connect to the cloud via the internet.

On the other hand, an on-premise or private VoIP system requires a central control unit, usually a PABX, to be installed within the business premise. This allows the connection to the internet via a SIP Trunk protocol.

How secure are VoIP calls?

Since VoIP requires an internet connection to function, there’s the risk of hacking and several other online threats.

However, VoIP remains a secure means of communication since networks are monitored and protected on an ongoing basis. You can also increase the security of your VoIP system by opting for an on-premise installation.

Are VoIP systems applicable to call centers?

Yes. If your business runs a call center, rest assured that the VoIP technology has got you. It offers a cost-effective and greatly scalable solution for your call center. Our VoIP system also features all the necessary functionalities, from queuing, call recording, and dialer integration.

Is the internet service included in your VoIP service?

Unfortunately, internet service is not included in our available VoIP services packages. However, as long as you have an internet service provider (ISP), you’re set to use the VoIP tech.

What are some of the limitations of the VoIP phone system?

You won’t experience any practical limitations on your business with the VoIP system. You can make as many calls as possible and have many users and phone numbers. However, you risk encountering robocall issues, so you’re advised to place only one phone call per line per second.
